Some Difficult News...
Hello Friends,
This is a message we never imagined we’d have to write, but it seems the South Bay rumor mill has been working overtime, and Will and I feel it’s important that you hear some challenging news directly from us.
A few months back, our Manhattan Beach landlord let us know that he had received an offer for our MB space from a large corporate tenant—their offer is double the rent we currently pay. Unfortunately double our current rent simply isn’t sustainable for our small, independent business. We are literally the definition of a "mom and pop" shop, and frankly it's economically impossible for us to compete with a national retailer. So, sadly we are on the hunt for a new home.
Our landlord is a good guy, he was exceptionally supportive to us through the terrible Covid times, and we understand his need to do what’s best for his family.
The Good News
WE WILL REMAIN OPEN
AT LEAST THROUGH EARLY SPRING
at our current Manhattan Beach location.
We will absolutely be here through the Holiday Season for all the festive fun! We have a ton of new goods in store, beautiful holiday decor, the best gifts and free gift wrapping as always!
We have every intention of staying in Manhattan Beach. This community has been like a second home, and that’s entirely because of you—our loyal clients, friends, and fellow small business owners who make downtown Manhattan Beach so special.
Rest assured we are doing everything we can to find an ideal new space. I love a good challenge, I'll get to plan out a whole new store!
While change can be hard, we’ve weathered challenges before. We will find a way to make it through this one too. We’re deeply grateful to our team for their dedication and heart, and to all of you for your ongoing love and support.
Our Hermosa Beach flagship Shop and Cafe isn’t going anywhere! We’re so thankful that we own our beautiful old building, and to have a permanent home there.
I promise we'll keep you posted. Time to get to work turning these lemons into lemonade!
XO,
Lori and Will
